The Gemstones Mob along with 7 other new mobs were discovered in January 1991 right after the MRED expanded its search perimeter .
Similar to previous meerkat mobs researched by the MRED, one of the members of the group was collared and the group was soon followed.
It took 4 months for the group to become fully-habituated, the dominant pair of the group at the time was held by female Amethyst and male Quartz.
